5-8 GRADE Program
The Intermediate School serves grades 5-8. Intermediate students have daily language therapy classes focused on individualized support in certified structured literacy curriculum. An emphasis on reading comprehension, academic language, vocabulary building, and developing critical thinking skills is present across the curriculum.
All May Center teachers earn certification in multi-sensory language therapy through Shelton School of Dallas, the largest school for students with learning differences in the world, as well as have extensive training in the research-based methods that work best for diverse learners. Our 6:1 student/teacher ratio ensures that our students maximize how they learn best with focused, individualized instruction.
May Center’s arts integration program teaches students to be creative problem solvers through understanding multiple points of view, design thinking, and an emphasis on developing executive functioning skills. Intermediate School students also participate in a number of special programs throughout the year including our Winter Ski and Sports Program, classes in Visual Arts in our two Art and Design Studios, and explicit instruction in Social Skills, Executive Functioning Skills, and Mindfulness. Learning Expedition is an outdoor education program that allows students to engage in physical activity while building relationships and learning about their relationship to the environment.
