Upper Elementary Teacher Position
Position Overview
The upper elementary teacher teaches small classes of grades 4-6. Upper Elementary teachers are responsible for teaching language intervention (reading and writing), mathematics, language arts, and social studies/cultural to their respective classes. This teaching position provides the foundation of school culture, executive function and mindfulness to each student by creating an environment for successful learning. It is essential that this teacher creates and maintains a safe, highly organized, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued. The upper elementary teacher serves as an integral member of the Elementary team that provides opportunities for collaboration, professional development and teaching support.
The ideal candidate’s qualifications will include:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, or a related field
Teaching experience at the elementary level required
Special education and/or experience working with children with language-based learning differences
Willingness to complete May Center’s reading specialist course and other May Way professional development as relevant
