All for one and one for all
Our annual 24-hour fundraising campaign is May 4 and 5, 2021! Your donation supports financial aid and our community outreach programs so that more students in New Mexico benefit from May Center's expertise and support. It takes ALL of us to make a difference for students with learning differences—ONE student at a time. To make a pledge or give now, please visit: https://www.maycenter.org/support-may-center.
Earth Day
May School students of all ages took time to learn about and celebrate Earth Day. Here are some interesting facts about Earth Day.
The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970.
20 million people celebrated the first year.
Earth Day is now celebrated in 192 countries.
The Earth Day anthem was written by Abhay Kumar and is sung in 8 languages.
Earth Day has a new theme each year. This year’s theme is Restore our Earth.
It’s not too late to celebrate Earth Day! What can you and your family do this weekend?
Butterfly Art
Ms. Caitlin’s students completed butterfly art projects by using collected rocks, leaves, flowers and sticks. This project was a great way to further develop fine motor skills while developing an appreciation for our Earth.
Planting Seeds
Ms. Daisy’s students began their studies of plants. They learned about how water and sunlight help seeds grow into plants and began the process of sprouting beans. Over the next few weeks they will watch their beans sprout into plants and further their knowledge about plants and root systems.
The hoot
Some first and second grade humor during reading class…
Teacher: Let's define the word "wait."
Student: Is this like the waiter at a restaurant?
Teacher: Yes, “wait” has many meanings, but it does mean to serve food at a meal. To wait on someone, or to serve someone.
Student: Why are they called the waiter when we are the ones waiting???
*class giggles*
Student: My sentence is, “I will wait for my waiter to wait on me.”
*giggles*
