Geometric Towns

Students in Ms. Lynda’s math class recently finished a geometry unit which culminated in a project in which students designed and created a geometric town.  Students were very creative in both developing their town and in naming the various parts with mathematical words.

FIREcrackers

Ms. Caitlin hosts the youngest group of May School students that are participating in online learning. Keeping first and second graders engaged during distance learning requires a special skill set that Ms. Caitlin definitely has.  When visiting her classes we often see students taking much needed movement breaks that include jumping jacks and firecrackers. To create firecrackers students rub hands together to make them warm, then pop their hands over their heads and wiggle their fingers as they bring them back down.  What a great way to get students moving!

Supporting Distance Learning at home

Understood.org is dedicated to supporting the families of children who learn and think differently. Check out some of their great resources to help at home, at school and at work in this time of distance learning.

Within this section, they offer printable schedules and learning agreements.

Understood.org also offers great suggestions on how to support children at home who have executive function challenges.

And for those days when your best doesn’t feel good enough...take a lesson from Elmo’s dad.
