World read aloud day
Intermediate students who participated in the alternative winter sports program helped celebrate World Read Aloud Day by picking a children’s book to read aloud to the Elementary and Early Childhood classes. Ms. Corrie supported the students in practicing reading with pacing, volume and excitement to engage our young readers. Some favorite titles included I’m a Frog! by Mo Willems (read by Hyrum L.), Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal (ready by Toby B.), and a true classic, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak (read by Pippa O.) … What a great way to inspire younger readers!
A look into Ms. Daisy’s class
Students in Ms. Daisy’s class are as busy as usual. They are working on building academic skills that include initiating tasks, increasing the amount of time on a task, asking for help when needed and building independence. Students practice skills while building knowledge about things such as place value, names of continents and oceans and letter sounds.
SANTA FE ANIMAL SHELTER VISIT
During the Intermediate Assembly on Fridays, our teachers take turns sharing how they are active participants in their community. This week, Ms. Kathy shared about her experience volunteering with and adopting a dog from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. She invited volunteers from the shelter to speak to students about the work they do and why it is important work in our community. They even brought along Dove, a four-legged ambassador from the shelter.
Stagecraft
Students in Ms. Marjorie’s stagecraft are working on props, set design and costumes for our upcoming school play, The Way I See It. Within learning how to create such items for a performance, they are also learning the important skills of long term planning that include, time management, problem solving and flexibility. I look forward to seeing their creations come to life for the performance!
