MINDFULNESS
Students in Ms. Megan’s class studied sand mandalas this week as a mindfulness practice. Her class is practicing staying in the present moment and not worrying about the past or what is coming next. After watching a brief video on sand mandalas, students had great conversations about how it must be hard to work on a sand mandala and then watch your work go away. Students then had the opportunity to color a mandala.
ELEMENTARY ICE SKATING
Elementary students begin four weeks of ice skating lessons and free skate time at Genoveva Chavez Community Center this week. We look forward to our yearly ice skating lessons. Not only do students improve their ice skating abilities but it also gives them an opportunity to build independence by putting on clothing layers and skates. Ice skating also provides great team and relationship building opportunities.
Caitlin and Megan’s classes begin lessons on 2/18
Ellen and Jamie’s classes begin lessons on 2/20
Please send your child with the following on the day of their lessons:
ski or bike helmet
long socks
gloves
warm layers
Practicing Grace and Courtesy
Ms. Daisy’s class celebrated Valentine’s Day by taking a field trip to the public library to participate in story time and a Valentine craft. They then went out to lunch to practice acts of grace and courtesy with their classmates and with restaurant staff. We are so happy to give our younger students the opportunity to practice social skills outside of a school setting.
