Gallery Walk
Thank you all for coming out to support your children this week at the Gallery Walk. We at May School love witnessing such an event come together and how the students fully own the evening and share their learning with others. During the school day students shared their work with others.
Voices of our Future
Ms. Kathy organized an opportunity for all 5th-8th graders to visit the New Mexico State Capitol to participate in the current legislative session. We are proud to say that 16 students wrote letters to New Mexico legislators on issues that matter to them. The topics ranged from solar development to prohibiting hydraulic fracturing permits. Students used free time both at school and home to express their opinions on these topics. On Tuesday they delivered their letters to the Roundhouse and learned more about the legislative process.
Trout in our classroom
Ms. Kathy (are you seeing a trend here?) and her science students have welcomed new members into their science classroom. This year, her students are participating in the Trout in the Classroom program. The trout eggs arrived after winter break and several hatched this week! Students will observe the development of trout and to release them in the Pecos River this spring. Thank you, Ms. Kathy, for planning such wonderful learning experiences for our students!
Swiftly Tilting Planet
Students in Ms. Ellen’s class are reading A Swiftly Tilting Planet. As part of the novel study, they wrote poems with a focus of parts of speech. They carefully crafted poems that followed the pattern of article, adverb, verb and noun. Students then illustrated their work using watercolors. What beautiful poems and artwork!
