SAVE THE DATE: GALLERY WALK

Play Auditions: the Way I see it
This coming week students will be treated to a Reader’s Theater-style version of our spring play, The Way I See It, performed by their teachers.
It is now time for students to sign up for auditions for the 10 speaking roles in the play. We encourage all students ages 8 and up to audition; the audition process is an awesome way for students to stretch out of their comfort zone in a safe environment. Students need to sign up for auditions by next Friday, January 24. The sign up sheet is located at Patty's desk. Auditions will take place Tuesday, January 29 and Wednesday, January 30 during the school day. Auditions will be in small groups of 4-5 students with no audience. Older students will be given a short excerpt from the play to take home Tuesday night to practice with. Younger students will not be asked to prepare anything in advance.
The speaking roles in the play will require some after school rehearsals. The number of after school rehearsals will vary depending on the size of the part. In general, rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-5:00 pm. We are willing to be as flexible as possible in order to accommodate our actors. Please let Amy Miller know of any after-school commitments your student may have as soon as possible so that I can do the best I can to plan.
The performance dates of the play are Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. We are looking forward to this opportunity for learning and growth this spring!
YOUTH FOR A SECURE WATER AND CLIMATE FUTURE
Due to our students’ work with Watershed Watch, our students have been invited to participate in Youth for a Secure Water and Climate Future civic engagement project which will culminate in a trip to the Legislature on January 28th. Over 15 May Center Intermediate students have elected to sign up to participate in this event! These students have agreed to several working lunch/recesses in order to write a letter to New Mexico policy makers on an issue related to water and climate that they are personally invested in. I look forward to seeing their voices heard on January 28th!
INTERMEDIATE SKI/SNOWBOARD PROGRAM
What an epic first day of our Intermediate ski/snowboard program! Ski Santa Fe reported 6 inches of fresh snow while we were on the mountain. This is an impressive day for skiers at any level but even more impressive of an experience for our first time skiers and snowboarders.
With a Little Help from My Friends by The Beatles rang through my head throughout the day. It began with students encouraging first timers as they stepped off to their lessons, then as I witnessed students waiting for each other on the mountain, stopping to help one another and even strangers get up from falls. At the end of the day experienced skiers and snowboarders helped the less experienced take off boots and even carried gear back to the rental shop for the wearied adventurers. While the skills gained in lessons are valuable, I have to believe that the opportunity to support fellow classmates and others on the mountain is a far more valuable life lesson.
