Dungeons and Dragons club
May Center is excited to offer an after-school club focusing on the fantasy role-playing game, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). This club is open to students ages 10 + and will involve a kid-friendly narrative.
Collaborative story-telling and problem-solving are the primary objectives of the game. Club members will learn how to create characters and to construct narratives that include everybody. Teamwork and communication are critical to move forward in an adventure. The only limit is imagination! (And sometimes dice rolls.)

Mairi Chanel McPherson will be the Dungeon Master for our club. Mairi (you say it My-Ree) has been playing in and running role-playing games for over 20 years. She started playing with others online when she was 10 years old, fell in love with the hobby, and has been an avid adventurer ever since.
If your child is interested in joining, please email Patty Conway, patty@maycenter.org.
FOlktales
Students in Ms. Mich’s class extended the country study that they began this semester by writing folktales from the perspective of the country they studied. Students were guided through each step of the writing process to complete their projects. They brainstormed, revised and ended with a beautiful final draft that they published into individual books. Students then shared their books with Elementary students, who thoroughly enjoyed the folktales.
International Dyslexia Association - Southwest annual Conference
May School teachers attended the International Dyslexia Association Dyslexia 2020 Conference last week. The conference, which was attended by over 650 people from the southwest region and beyond, gave our teachers the chance to learn from international experts in the field of reading science and dyslexia. At the event, Amy Miller, May Center for Learning Executive Director and IDA-SW President Elect presented Senator Mimi Stewart with the Jane Blumenfeld Community Award for her work on SB 398 Dyslexic Student Interventions. Thank you, Senator Stewart for your career-long commitment to improving reading outcomes for ALL students in New Mexico!
