practical life

Practical Life activities are an important part of the Montessori Method. “Practical Life” refers to any physical activity that helps the child grow in fine motor skills, respect, confidence, and independence.
Practical Life activities range from using spoons and tweezers, to pouring and sweeping, to washing tables and displaying acts of grace and courtesy towards others. These multi-step and sequenced activities also support development of sustained attention, concentration, and problem solving skills. Any controlled movement of hands, arms, legs, feet, and eyes helps a child achieve independence and mastery of their environment, as well as gain a sense of order.
It's wonderful to witness this development in our youngest students!

Virtual assemblies
While we still cannot have whole-school assemblies as in the days of yore, we can still have assemblies! They’re just “virtual” now.
Each student joins a Google Meet where Mr. Bret highlights student work, celebrates birthdays, invites students to join in a Kahoot (online quiz game), and shares hilarious jokes that everybody laughs at. (OK … maybe not everybody laughs. And maybe they’re not “hilarious” jokes.)
We also do a happy Friday dance.
