creation stories

Students in Ms. Jennifer’s Language Arts class have been learning about different cultures in the Middle Ages. Something they noticed was that while all people had a creation story, the stories were all a little — or sometimes A LOT — different.

With this in mind, students made a creation legend of their own. They collaborated on their idea, made a story board, then illustrated their story about how New Mexico came into being. They realized that they had to have a way to explain how the land was formed, and where the plants, animals, and people came from.

The two groups came up with their own story. And even though these two groups of students are separated by just a hallway, the two stories could come from opposite ends of the Earth!

Volcano sending out the Fire Horse.

Sea Dragon exploding and making people.

Above: A very different creation story.

Moon shaking down animals.

Aliens weren’t happy just being trees.

travels to the past

Above: Completed travel brochures from various regions of the world.

Students in Ms. Gabriella's Language Arts classes have been studying ancient cultures. Students have gained an appreciation for how past cultures have informed today's societies.

Students practiced research, writing, project completion, and presentation skills. The photo above shows completed travel brochures, while the photos below are examples of students’ handmade replicas of artifacts.

Additionally, students had the opportunity to reflect on their own learning in the process. Excellent work, historians!

Picture Retake Day will be Friday, December 3, 2021.

If your child was not present for Picture Day, or if you purchased photos but would like to exchange them for new ones, mark your calendar.

Please contact Patty at patty@maycenter.org to get the retake order form.
