Gratitude

We are grateful to our May School families for your support as we transitioned to remote learning this week. Thank you for all of the ways you have demonstrated flexibility to support your children. We deeply appreciate it. We also want to celebrate our amazing May School teachers who did not miss a beat, diving into meaningful curriculum and continuing what we do best in the remote setting.

Social Clubs

We are excited to announce the return of May School Social Clubs! Social Clubs are 30-minute video calls for students to hang out and chat socially, just like they would at school, and are open to all May School students.

Our first Elementary Social Club will meet next Tuesday, November 10, 2:00 - 2:30 PM.  The theme will be Games!  Ms. Stephanie will act as chaperone for this club and will lead students in games and conversation.  Elementary students may join with Google Meet:

Our first Intermediate Social Club will meet next Wednesday, November 11, 4:00 - 4:30 PM.  Mr. Bret will act as chaperone for this club.  Intermediate students may join with Google Meet:

advice from middle schoolers

With our in-person students moving to remote learning, it was the perfect opportunity for our middle school students who have been participating in remote learning since the beginning of the year to give advice to those who are making the transition. Here’s what they have to share (without any adult prompting, for real!):

  • Do your homework right away. Don’t wait until the evening.

  • Keep your camera on.

  • Use the restroom when on breaks.

  • Don’t get too comfy. It’ll make you sleepy.

  • Stretch your body!

getting ready for the day

To support student transition to remote learning, May School teachers have created checklists for students that support students in preparing for class. These checklists help students build independence and allow them to start the day with confidence.

COMMUNITY SEMINAR: GENDER AND CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT: A CONVERSATION WITH LISA SELIN DAVIS, AUTHOR OF TOMBOY

Join us on Monday, November 9 at 6:00pm with Lisa Selin Davis, author of the book Tomboy. Register here! In Tomboy, Davis explores the evolution of tomboyism from a Victorian ideal to a twenty-first century fashion statement, honoring the girls and women--and those who identify otherwise--who stomp all over archaic gender norms. She highlights the forces that have shifted what we think of as masculine and feminine, delving into everything from clothing to psychology, history to neuroscience, and the connection between tomboyism, gender identity, and sexuality.  Lisa will be in conversation with May Center Executive Director, Amy Miller.
