The Comeback Can
Do you think you could make a can that rolls back to you when you tell it to? Well, students in Mr. Scott's science class have done just that!
Using their knowledge of the forms of energy, these young scientists worked in pairs to design and construct a “comeback can.” These cans contain only a paper clip, rubber bands, string, tape, nuts, and washers. The comeback can uses both kinetic energy (the energy of motion) and potential energy (stored energy).
Students collected data on the distance cans traveled and completed a lab report that included a hypothesis, processes, a conclusion, and notes for improvements.
Food drive
To support our community this holiday season, May School will be accepting donations for the Bag ‘n Hand Food Pantry, located at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The Bag ‘n Hand Food Pantry is a partner agency of The Food Depot of Santa Fe and one of the largest food pantries in northern New Mexico. It is operated solely by volunteers.
We are asking for the following items:
Food items such as…
* peanut butter
* canned meat with pop top
* pasta
* cold cereal
* packages or cans of nuts
* cans or packages of fruit
* breakfast or nutrition bars
* juices
…and personal hygiene items such as…
* toothpaste
* diapers
* shampoo
* conditioner
* small laundry detergent
* dish soap
Items will be collected in students’ homerooms between Monday, December 7, and Thursday, December 16.
In the spirit of friendly competition, the homeroom that brings in the most items will receive a pizza party!
The Winter Sports program is back!
The Winter Sports Variety program will include sledding, bowling, or other activities to be determined. The Ski/Snowboard program includes a lift ticket, rental equipment, morning lesson, and afternoon ski time.
The program will run for four Thursdays — January 13, 20, 27, and February 3. The Variety program takes place during school hours. Skiers and snowboarders typically depart May School at 8:00 AM and return around 4:30 PM.
