PUMPKINS GALORE
Each year, the arrival of pumpkins brings much excitement to our students and families alike. Students in Ms. Ellen’s class are studying straight and curved lines. The pumpkins proved to be the perfect still life object for her students to examine and draw.
BIRTHDAY CIRCLE
Ms. Daisy always knows how to make students feel special. Birthday celebrations in her room are no different. Students in her class get to celebrate birthdays with a beautiful Montessori ceremony. A candle, representing the sun, is lit in the middle of a circle. Labels with each month of the year circle the sun. The birthday child walks around the sun one time for each year of his or her life while the teacher talks about what the child was doing when he or she was that age. At the end of the walk, the child blows out the candle and classmates get to sing “Happy Birthday.”
THE TIME WARP TRIO
Each day after lunch and recess, students in Ms. Mich’s class participate in a mindfulness exercise followed by a class reading of a novel. This week, her afternoon class finished reading Your Mother was a Neanderthal from The Time Warp Trio series by Jon Scieszka. In this series, three boys travel through time and space from a number of captivating adventures.
Here’s what her students have to say about the book:
“It’s really funny, interesting and humorous.” - Danny
“There’s a whole series of these books!” -Donicio
“It’s a really fun book. I recommend it for kids from Kindergarten to middle school.” - Dane

PARENT/CARETAKER DISCUSSION GROUP
It is hard to believe October is already well under way. These months of transitions and uncertainty seem unending and it has become increasingly apparent how important community is for our wellbeing. At a time when many of us continue to feel disconnected, we want to offer a chance to come together. Our hope is to create a group or groups for parents and caretakers to have productive discussion around all of the topics that are draining our mental batteries at night. Please take a moment to complete this Google form and let us know what topics might be of interest to you.
Math Amigos and Santa Fe Public Library are teaming up again to bring interactive programming for 5th-8th grade students. Mathemagical Times is a program designed to incorporate literature, art, writing, puzzles, games and manipulatives to teach necessary math skills. See the flier below for more details.
