spirit week and halloween
School spirit week is next week! Here’s the schedule of themes:
Monday, October 28: Pajama Day
Tuesday, October 29: School Colors (green + white)
Wednesday, October 30: Crazy Hair Day
Thursday, October 31: Wear your Halloween costume
We love celebrating Halloween with your children! Students are invited to come to school in costume. Any weapon props must stay at home. If your child may become uncomfortable in their costume during the day please send a change of clothes.
On Halloween students will start the day by showing off their costumes to the school in an all-school assembly. The day will conclude with a Halloween carnival. Thank you to those who have agreed to bring yummy snacks to help make our annual event a success!
USBORNE BOOK FAIR
The Usborne Book Fair will be on campus beginning on Monday, October 28 through Friday, November 1st in the Elementary wing. Students will have an opportunity to visit the book fair during the school day.
Teachers will create wish lists of books that parents can buy and donate to the classroom. The wish lists will be in the south wing for elementary teachers and in the west wing for intermediate teachers.
dyslexia justice league
We were happy to see some of you in Albuquerque at the annual Dyslexia Justice League student/parent conference! The event was attended by over 100 people from around our state. Students had the opportunity to hear from some extremely generous and articulate adult mentors, including May Center teacher Marjorie Hanus and May School dad Jim Dernocouer! We are so grateful to them for their participation and support.
Reunity Farm
Ms. Marjorie’s science class began the year taking regular field trips to Reunity farm to learn about agriculture and help harvest food. As the harvesting at the farm came to a close the students were able to pick some final fall vegetables to bring back to school for a class project. Ms. Mich worked with the same students to write a sequence paragraph that included the steps on how to make a vegetable soup and then the students were able to make and enjoy the soup. What a great cross-curricular lesson!
THE EXCITEMENT OF LIBRARY CARDS
Supporting a love of reading goes beyond spending time reading each day. Students in Ms. Caitilin’s class are excited to announce that they will soon be library card holders thanks to their supportive parents and teacher! Her class will be taking regular field trips to the library to pick out books, create reading goals and share their love of reading with classmates. Thank you for organizing this, Ms. Caitlin!
