STUDENT GALLERY
May School students began the year studying the first nomads and are now learning about Ancient Egyptians. Over the last few weeks, Intermediate students have created works of art representing what they have learned. Projects ranged from letters to ancient peoples, models of pyramids and nomadic dwellings, and handmade tools. This week, students displayed their works of art in the hallway for all to admire. Well done, Intermediate students!
EXECUTIVE FUNCTION AND CLASS PROJECTS
Whether students are online or in person, May School teachers provide support on planning, organizing and completing projects. Our online intermediate teachers are finding creative ways to help students stay on track and organized. Ms. BB uses Jamboard (You’ll find that we LOVE Jamboard at May Center….no we do not own the rights to the product, but wish we did.) to guide students through the project process. Ms. Kathy has created a spreadsheet in order to communicate with students and parents about where students are and how they are doing on their science fair projects.
PARENT/CARETAKER DISCUSSION GROUP
It is hard to believe October is already well under way. These months of transitions and uncertainty seem unending and it has become increasingly apparent how important community is for our wellbeing. At a time when many of us continue to feel disconnected, we want to offer a chance to come together. Our hope is to create a group or groups for parents and caretakers to have productive discussion around all of the topics that are draining our mental batteries at night. Please take a moment to complete this Google form and let us know what topics might be of interest to you.
ADHD & EXECUTIVE FUNCTION COMMUNITY SEMINAR
Mark your calendar for our next free community seminar on ADHD and executive function development. This seminar will take place via Zoom on Monday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m.
What are executive functioning skills, why is the development of executive functioning skills delayed in children with ADHD and other learning differences, and how do they impact a person’s learning and success? This introduction to executive function will answer these questions and provide specific strategies for supporting a child’s EF skills at school and in the home. Strategies for remote learning success will be discussed. Presented by May Center Executive Director, Amy Miller.

FLU SHOT CLINIC REMINDER
This is the last weekend that Christus St. Vincent is providing a free flu shot clinic. We’ve heard from several families that the event is well organized and while you may have a 30-45 minute wait, it’s an easy way to have everyone in the family vaccinated at the same time.
