Free Community Seminar

EXPERIENCE DYSLEXIA:WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LEARN DIFFERENTLY?

We look forward to seeing you this Wednesday, October 9 from 6-8 for our first community seminar of the school year. This event is open to the public; we welcome you to invite your friends!

Community Seminars are required for families new to May Center.  

What does it feel like to have a learning difference in a typical classroom?   This overview of learning differences explains the cognitive differences in children who learn differently and identifies characteristics of learning differences.  A powerful opportunity to participate in a simulation of learning differences is included. Presented by Amy Miller, Executive Director, Amy Stanton, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Stephanie Binkley, May School Director, and Patty Conway, Front Office Manager. 


Family Game Night

Join us for family fun on Friday, October 25th from 5:30-7:30 in the Intermediate wing of May School.

Chess, checkers, Battleship, Risk (Secret Mission), Uno, War, Twister, Jenga, Corn Hole… You get the idea. Does your family have a favorite? Sign up here to lead a game table, help with set-up, or do the pizza run.

$3 per person suggested donation for pizza. Don’t like pizza? Feel free to bring your own food!

intermediate hiking club

Ms. Patty will be leading an Intermediate Hiking club on Tuesdays from 3:00-5:00 beginning on October 15th and going through November 19th. The club will go on gentle hikes in the Santa Fe area. Parents will be notified of hike location each week. Reserve your spot by October 11th!

Cost: $105 ($15 per session)

Minimum number of students: 4

Maximum number of students: 8

Calling all Young curators

SITE Santa Fe’ Young Curators Program invites artists ages 30 and younger to submit work that addresses the urgent issues facing our world. Submissions are due to SITE Santa Fe by November 5th.

Ms. Marjorie is offering studio time on Wednesdays after school from 3:15-4:15 from October 9th through October 30th for students interested in pursuing a submission. Students are not required to come to studio time to submit a piece of work. Sign up by October 8th!

Cost: $15 per session Maximum number of students: 8

Dyslexia Justice League

 

On Saturday, October 19th the Southwest Branch of the International Dyslexia Association and May Center are hosting a student and parent conference in Albuquerque. Students ages 8-18 will be able to connect with peers from around the state, get to know adult mentors. learn about how they learn best and participate in a Maker’s Challenge. Parents will be able to connect with other parents, participate in a dyslexia simulation, learn about the latest brain research on dyslexia and SB 398, and much more. Student registration is free!
