Housekeeping
For Art: Please send in your empty shoe boxes for an upcoming project with Ms. Brenda. Thank you!
For Halloween: While picking out Halloween costumes with your children, please remember that we do not wear costume masks at school, nor do we allow weapons. Also, please try to avoid anything too scary as we have students as young as 3 years of age here at May Center.
Owl Vision
Reading: In “Jack’s Reading Room,” the Elementary students read Enemy Pie, a book about turning enemies into friends. The Intermediate students made their own secret code using hieroglyphics to align with their History studies. Ms. Corrie’s class read The New York Times article, “Should Dogs Be Allowed Inside Restaurants and Stores?” and then had a lively conversation and debate surrounding this issue.
Art: This week, Ms. Brenda showed the students how to make paper mache masks using balloons. They also started making little matchbox houses for animals and matchbox shrines.
Science: This week, the Elementary classes studied animal camouflage and created their own camouflage creatures to hide around the classroom. The Intermediate students worked on personifying an element from the periodic table into a superhero or supervillain. In collaboration with their Ancient History studies, they also explored where clay and papyrus come from and how they are processed into usable materials. They then wrote messages on clay and papyrus.
Assembly
Last Friday, the Intermediate students broke out into groups and played charades, with each group having to act out a particular scene. The students did an amazing job exercising their teamwork and creativity.
