a love of Reading
Instilling a love of reading begins at an early age. Exposure to reading from a variety of people in a variety of settings supports this development.
Ms. Daisy's students have the opportunity to read books each day, whether looking at them independently, listening to story tapes, or listening to books during circle time.
This past week, Ms. Daisy's class joined Santa Fe Public Library’s outdoor story time. Children enjoyed hearing a story read and participating in song and dance at the library.
“reading” portraits
Students in Ms. Corrie's Language Arts class have been learning to "read" other people's portraits as biographies. They learned to look at facial expressions … focal points … gestures … clothing … setting … and objects … as way to learn about the individual in a given portrait.
As an extension to this lesson, students posed for their own self-portraits and are writing about why they chose the facial expression, gestures, setting, and objects in their photo.
