June 23 and 24: 24 Hours for May Scholars Fund--Open the Door to Learning

Thank you to those of you who have already contributed generously to our May Scholars Fund, which is devoted to providing financial aid for May School students during this time of increased need.   Please mark your calendars for our 24-hour matching funds campaign, which begins at 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 23, and goes until 3:00 pm Wednesday, June 24.  During this 24-hour campaign, facilitated through the Charidy organization, our generous matchers will match every dollar raised.  This is the time to reach out to your friends and family members to ask them to give.  Every dollar raised goes to support financial aid.  Look for more information coming soon in the mail, through email, and on May Center’s Facebook page.

Summer Leap

Our summer LEAP spots are filling fast. Prevent summer slide, build foundational skills in reading, mathematics, and writing, and keep your child excited about learning. Current May School families receive a discounted rate. Sign up today!

Trout release

We have been following the story of our school trout since they arrived as eggs.  We are happy to report that as of this Saturday, they are living happily in the Pecos river.  Ms. Kathy, along with her daughter and husband, were able to release the trout. What a great way to culminate the work students have done this year with raising trout through the Trout in our Classroom program and collecting data through the Watershed Watch program. We are fortunate to have both of these resources in Santa Fe. Check out this video of the full release!

A final feeding before release.

PREDICT THE TEMPERATURE WITH CRICKET CHIRPS

Did you know that you can predict the temperature by counting the number of cricket chirps in a set amount of time? It’s true!  Conversely, you can predict the number of cricket chirps if you know the temperature. Students in Mr. Bret’s and Ms. Stephanie’s math classes had fun testing   out the formulas. This is a great activity to test out on a summer evening!

We see you, May Center community

What a fun way to celebrate the end of the year! It was great to see you all for our slideshow and dance party...a true testament to what an amazing community we have at May Center. We loved seeing families sing and dance together.  We wish you all a safe and happy summer.
