Practical Life at home

Student’s in Ms. Ellen’s class receive a weekly challenge to complete a simple recipe at home.  Cooking with children supports development in following directions, reading and math measurement skills. Flatbread was one of the recipes her students enjoyed making. You may want to try making this at home too!

2 cups flour

1-1¼ cup of lukewarm water

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 tablespoon oil/butter/shortening

Mix dry ingredients together and add most water, mix and add water until it has the consistency of tacky pizza dough. Knead for a few minutes. Let rest in a greased bowl for 30-60 minutes. Divide into 6 pieces and roll out on a floured surface thin (tortilla thickness). Heat griddle to 350 degrees. Cook until you see golden brown spots and flip, cooking until done. They can be made ahead and kept under a towel or frozen for later use.

A Peek into an Ms. Corrie’s Language Arts class

May Center teachers are skilled at supporting student learning when in the physical classroom. This hasn’t changed now that they are teaching online.  Ms. Corrie’s students listened to an excerpt of Story of the World, our main text for social studies, through Learning Ally and then paraphrased sentences and cited evidence using Google Docs. This allowed students to receive immediate feedback from Ms. Corrie as she can see their doc as they are writing and make suggestions and comments in each student’s document in real time. By the end of class, students created a complete summary of their Story of the World reading.  Well done, Ms. Corrie and students!

Resolve Personal Safety

Exciting news - Resolve is hosting TWO online workshops next week that are open to the public! Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and checked in with us over the last couple of weeks. We hope these will be helpful to you in this uncertain and stressful time. Both of these are free, but space is limited, so don't wait to sign up!

Navigating Boundaries During a Pandemic

Tuesday, May 5th, Noon-1:15PM (MDT)

For ages 13 and up

Boundaries are an important part of healthy and caring relationships. During an unprecedented health crisis, it can feel hard to find the right words to talk through conflict with people in our lives - maybe because it’s someone we live with, or because we want to support a loved one while they’re physically isolated. In this interactive virtual workshop, Resolve staff will guide participants through common scenarios where we may need to set boundaries to keep ourselves safe and comfortable and improve our relationships with friends, family, roommates, and others.

Bystander Intervention From Home

Thursday, May 7th, Noon-1:15PM (MDT)

For ages 13 and up

Many of us are deeply concerned about rates of domestic violence and child abuse going up during this pandemic and are uncertain how we can help those in our lives while in isolation. In this virtual workshop, we will discuss barriers to helping others during this time and build skills for addressing concerns and supporting others during this pandemic. Resolve staff will guide participants through how to help build resilience and a sense of control for those in unsafe situations.
